Majordomo in Los Angeles is David Chang's first restaurant in California. I tried booking a table for a week with no luck. We were planning to just walk in and hope to seat at the bar, but decided to check website one more time and there it was;one table at 5:45pm available on the patio. Quickly requested an Uber and rushed to get there and enjoy my birthday dinner. Location is pretty interesting. You would never think that LA's spot to be right now is there in the middle of industrial DTLA. Wine list is huge and they have pretty creative cocktails. We chose the Zombie cocktail with tequila, mezcal, raicilla and pomegranate. This cocktail is served in a maneki-neko (Japanese lucky cat) glass and the Paloma with tequila and grapefruit three ways. Menu is a mix of korean, chinese, italian and american food. No labels, just good food. We started with a Bing (Chinese flatbread)You pick up the accompaniments: we had the cultured butter and honey. Other toppings include: foie grass, ricotta and plum and aged butter with white sturgeon caviar. Server recommended to try the jumeokbap and said it was a really fun interactive dish. We went ahead and ordered and what it came to the table was a big bowl with rice, seaweed, avocado and sesame. On the side 4 pairs of plastic gloves. This is a DIY dish. Basically jumeokbap is rice balls, so you put on your gloves, and mix all the ingredients together and form rice balls. See video below. We also ordered the stuffed peppers. Three peppers stuffed with spicy sausage, battered, deep fried with buttermilk dressing on the side. Their heirloom tomatoes dish was summer on a plate. Cherry tomatoes, stone fruit, Thai basil and sesame seeds. We enjoyed the marinated black cod with hozon(Chang's own spice mix) tasted like miso, with bok choy and plums. While we were eating we noticed a dish that caught our attention .Short rib dish is good for 4 to 6ppl and it is braised short rib, served with rice cake, sweet potato and table side there is a server that comes and pours melted raclette on top. WOW! We ended our birthday dinner with a horchata kakigori (japanese version of shaved ice)with rice pudding at the bottom, coffee, fluffy ice like snow, with an horchata syrup and dulce de leche cream. As expected Majordomo is completely worth the hype, fantastic service, and outstanding food, we will be back. elatedpalate Majordomo
